SALUS QUALITY & SAFETY CONSULTANTS

LEARN MORE

In Roman mythology, Salus was the goddess of health and well-being. The leadership team of Salus Quality & Safety Consultants (Salus) takes this name as the inspiration to reflect their passion for patient care and patient safety. Improvements in patient safety are foundational to reduce risks to patients, health systems, and clinical care team members.

Salus partners with healthcare organizational leadership and front-line team members to improve patient safety and the patient safety culture, systematically reduce organizational risk, and move towards high reliability. As part of the engagement, Salus also addresses well-being of the clinical care team and disruptive team member behavior. We evaluate factors that may be adversely impacting individuals and preventing them from doing their best.

Salus acquires and integrates data by combining a variety of approaches. These include structured interviews with leadership from multiple organizational levels, medical records examination, policy inspection, and protocol review. The key component in the Salus process is dedicating significant time interviewing physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, and other front-line staff members, including interviews on the unit they work. Conducting “in-situ” interviews skillfully is an art. When done expertly, this process promotes honest sharing of challenges and direct observation of workflows that can impact the culture of patient safety.

The results are pragmatic and actionable recommendations that have direct positive impacts on patient care and staff well-being. This action demonstrates to team members that your organization is committed to solving challenges, which improves engagement in patient safety efforts. A Salus engagement will have an immediate impact and influence on patient safety practices and culture, including issues that service lines and organizations have been struggling with for years. Once the Salus team leaves, our work is not done. We will work with you to develop priorities and to follow-up assuring there is an implementation plan. The Salus team's passion and commitment will be evident as we collaborate with you to provide safer patient care resulting in reduced risk to your organization.
